Rationale: The Philippine Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) estimates that among pre-school nationwide 3-5 years old, about 9 out of every 100 children are at least moderately underweight, 5 in every 100 are stunted, and 7 out of 100 are wasted*.
How you can help: Provide supplemental food to malnourished children aged 7 and below. The program involves providing one (1) complete meal everyday for a period of 6-months to children identified as first-to-third degree malnourished by the community leaders and the DSWD.
How it works: Malnourished children aged 1 to 6 years old is the target group as this is the critical brain development age. These children are evaluated at the end of the 6-month program to determine whether they should continue receiving supplemental feeding.
Going Beyond: The program also includes training and seminar for parents on proper nutrition and care for their children. The mothers are tasked to do the cooking and marketing as part of their participation in the program.
